“Quick Tips for Writing A Successful Blog”

English: Blogs on JoopeATry being there for your readers constantly. Make a habit out of interacting with them. Keep the social in social media marketing or it doesn’t work and blogging is as much a part of this type of marketing as Twitter is. You don’t need any advanced degrees to succeed in writing your blog, simply being passionate about a subject will result in a quality blog.

You must update frequently to keep your blog interesting. If you neglect to add new articles to your blog, there is no incentive for visitors to come back to view your blog. Make sure your following invitation is clearly visible and near the top of your sidebar.

Make sure that your blog has unique values. Having interesting content that is different will increase site traffic. You can also include information that is not easily found anywhere else. Try writing a blog about an unusual experience or hobby. Give readers a reason to come to your blog for information that connects them to a potential sale of your book(s).

Make use of pictures in your posts always. Images add more than words alone and attract attention that would otherwise go elsewhere without something eye catching.

Keep your blogs clear and direct. While it is important to provide the depth of detail that your readers are looking for, posts that are too lengthy or wordy may turn off your readers. Blog readers are less concerned about mundane details and flowery prose. They want a readable blog that gets to the main point of the post.

When you are running a blog, remember to write each post informally. A blog should be fun.

There are tons and tons of blogs out there, and if you are not posting on a consistent basis, your visitors may start looking for someone that does. There are of course exceptions, like holidays, when people don’t mind. As a rule, a follower followed for a reason and you shouldn’t disappoint them.

Post your blog articles to as many places on the Internet as you can. This will attract more readers to reach a wider audience. Many of your profiles on other sites like Goodreads allow you to connect your blogs feed so that the most recent post is viewable on your profile. Take full advantage of showing off your blog on all profiles that allow this option.

As you probably already know, blogging is social media marketing and article marketing combined, and one of the most popular forms of both on the Internet today. People start blogs on all kinds of topics and for all sorts of reasons.

Please share what your blog is about, why your started it, and any tips you have found that make yours successful in the comments below.

  1. Thanks for the tips, really useful. I started my blog at the end of last year and was totally green about social media…it was also way outside my comfort zone. I’m a tarot reader & astrologer, write books on tarot and novels. I wanted a fresh platform for my new tarot book and to get people interested in my novel. I offer information on how to read tarot, information about my novel, and have started networking to showcase other people’s novels thanks to some connections I’ve made through Goodreads. My blog’s at http://toniallenauthor.com/

I don’t know if my blog is successful yet, but the visitors and page views are slowly climbing day by day, and I now have over 50 followers. To me that’s a milestone! My biggest tools in all this have been courage (like I said, way outside my confort zone with social media), connecting with like minded people, and my site stats. The stats let me know which posts are working, and which ones have sunk like a lead balloon! This gives me insight into how to pitch my posts and who’s out there reading my material. Never think your stats are boring, they are worth more than gold!

    1. Thanks so much for sharing this Toni…understanding about stats and how to apply what they mean is great insight. Talking about how you are niche writing about things people who would enjoy your book would be looking for and networking with other bloggers and writers to grow your realm of influence is all spot on! If anyone hasn’t found their stats page yet – on WordPress, stats can be accessed by going to Blog Admin, Dashboard and there is Site Stats or by clicking on the graphic lines on the top left corner of the site while signed in. Thanks again and we hope you will be a frequent participant here, sharing AHA moments! Debra L Hartmann
