Great article, Damon. I agree entirely about not climaxing the story too soon. Excited to tell it all, some writers – beginning and published – end up with a last chapter mopping up irrelevancies.
I would appreciate your clarification that at beginning of a chapter, the reader should be clued in as to what happened before and what will happen next. That doesn’t sound quite right.
